In the past few weeks, LehmanGaeilge, the Irish Language Program at Lehman College, has proudly announced the following awards for 2018.
+ Dr. Kate Foster was the recipient of the Excellence in Irish Language Studies award. Her achievement was celebrated at a departmental gathering on May 31, 2018 following commencement ceremonies at Lehman College. Kate completed the B.A. degree in Comparative Literature (Irish Language Track) as well as a Minor in Irish Language and Literature. Kate marched with the Department of Languages and Literatures at Commencements. Tomás and Dr. Amin Erfani (see photo above) as well as Caoimhe Nic Giollarnáith marched with Kate. Prof. John Gillen joined them afterwards at the departmental celebration.
+ Prior to graduation, the 2018 study abroad students receiving the Gaeltacht Summer Awards met for an orientation on May 16, 2018. Erin Forbes and Jonah Green are both recipients of the awards which are sponsored by the Department of Culture, Heritage and the Gaeltacht, the National Lottery of Ireland, and the Ireland-United States Commission for Educational Exchange. Erin and Jonah each completed two semesters of Elementary Irish language with Lehman College to be able to apply for the award. In addition to Irish language instructors Caoimhe and Tomás, alumni from the National University of Ireland-Galway summer program were also in attendance including Brenna McCaffrey, Naomi McCooe, and Seán Minehan. Sandra Cortez also presented from the Lehman College Study Abroad Office.
